Nickel (II) Chloride NiCl₂

Nickel (II) chloride, NiCl₂, is a lab-grade nickel salt that is highly soluble in water and gives a dependable source of nickel ions in aqueous systems. The anhydrous solid is yellow-brown and the common hydrate is green.

Its main industrial use is in nickel electroplating baths, where chloride supports anode corrosion and solution conductivity. It is also used to prepare nickel catalysts, in electrochemical and battery research, in ceramic and specialty glass coloration, and as a precursor to other nickel compounds. Nickel salts are toxic and are recognized skin sensitizers.
