Pure aluminum #809 American dark pyro powder is a milled flake aluminum screened to -325 mesh and supplied in one-pound packages. Milling gives the dark color and the high surface area that separate dark pyro grades from bright or atomized aluminum.

It is used as the metallic fuel in pyrotechnic compositions, including fireworks effects and flares, where a fine, fast-reacting aluminum is called for. Store it sealed and dry, away from oxidizers, acids and ignition sources; airborne fines at this particle size ignite readily.
