Black Iron Oxide Powder - Magnetite - Fe3O4

Black iron oxide is synthetic magnetite, Fe3O4, supplied as a fine powder in one-pound quantities. It is an inorganic pigment with an opaque jet-black tone and a slight metallic sheen, and it is magnetic, lightfast, alkali resistant and stable to weathering.

It is used to color concrete, mortar, pavers and precast elements, and as a pigment in paints, coatings, stains and plasters. Ceramicists use it as a colorant in glazes and slips, where it can break toward brown or gray depending on firing. It also serves in soap, cosmetic and resin work and as a magnetic filler.
