Formaldehyde Formalin (37%)

Formaldehyde solution at 37 percent, the concentration sold as formalin, is supplied at laboratory grade in 950 ml bottles. It is a clear, pungent aqueous solution of the simple aldehyde, reactive and stable in storage when kept closed and away from cold.

Its principal use is fixation and preservation of biological tissue for histology, pathology and anatomy work, where it crosslinks proteins and halts autolysis so specimens hold their structure for sectioning and microscopy. It is also used as a disinfectant and antifungal agent, in embalming, and as a feedstock for phenolic, urea and melamine resins.
