Nickel (II) Sulfate Hexahydrate

Nickel (II) sulfate hexahydrate, NiSO₄·6H₂O, is an emerald-green crystalline solid that dissolves readily in water and is supplied as lab-grade material.

It is the primary nickel salt in Watts-type bright nickel plating baths and is used in electroforming, nickel strike and other metal finishing solutions. Other uses include ceramic and glass glazes, where it contributes green and gray-brown tones, mordant work in dyeing, and crystal growing for teaching collections. Nickel sulfate is toxic and a recognized skin sensitizer, so dust and skin contact should be avoided.
